Tools for Educators

The world of Jewish Arts Education is vast and can be overwhelming. Incorporating Jewish Arts Education into one’s classroom or religious school doesn’t require your own art skills; it just requires a willingness to be creative and curious as you try new things!

Drawing from Text

Creating is at the core of Jewish text - by both humans and the Divine. Learning from these texts, creativity and art can inspire teachers and learners alike to deepen their understanding of our tradition. These sources can be used to frame Jewish Arts Education by inviting learners to reflect on creativity as a sacred practice and a meaningful part of Jewish life.

Your Creative Toolkit

Stocking a closet of art supplies is an important first step to integrating art into your Jewish educational setting! Here, you’ll find a list of some essentials for you to have.

A few notes:

  • Paint Sticks! I believe that Paint sticks should be every educator’s best friend. Paint sticks provide the similar bright color of paint, without the mess of paint brushes, pouring paint, and waiting hours for it to dry. You can see one example here.

  • For all of the Jewish-specific crafting supplies, I recommend Benny’s Educational Toys. They have an extensive collection of Jewish crafting supplies as well as pre-set kits for children of all ages.
